The Tesla Roadster is the company's fastest car ever produced. It is able to accelerate from 0 - 100KMh in just under 2 seconds.
But apparently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not happy with the Roadster's speed and wants to send it accelerating straight to the moon.
Yeah, we're not joking about that.
Back in January 2019, a Twitter user posted up a simple animation of the DeLorean floating, to which Musk replied:
The new Roadster will actually do something like this https://t.co/fIsTAYa4x8

He stated how he'll achieve this:
I’m not. Will use SpaceX cold gas thruster system with ultra high pressure air in a composite over-wrapped pressure vessel in place of the 2 rear seats.

Whatever that means.
During a podcast called Ride the Lightning, Musk revealed new details on the company's next iteration of the Tesla Roadster. Apparently, it will come with rocket engine thrusters strapped to the car.
The Roadster package, dubbed 'SpaceX Package' will fling the car forward with up to three Gs of thrust.
“If you have three Gs of thrust, you can go in any direction. You can go up and accelerate with still more than 2 Gs.” Musk said on the podcast.
The thrusters will take the position of the back seats and it will be powered using the Roadster's batteries.
So if you want a literal rocket-powered car, the Tesla SpaceX Package will be available in 2020 and will be limited to 10,000 units built per year.
