All-electric car manufacturer Tesla, Inc. has released a video showcasing its next-gen Roadster supercar. The company claims that even the standard trim version needs no more than two seconds to get going at 100 km/h (62 mph) and only hits its speed limit at 400 km/h (250 miles per hour).
After its market debut in 2020, the new Tesla Roadster will most likely be holding the title of the fastest-going production vehicle in the world for a while. The current champion in that regard is the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which needs 2.3 seconds to sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). It also completes the quarter mile in 9.35s, while Tesla needs 0.55s less to do the same.
The original Tesla Roadster Concept debuted a year and a half ago. The car features a powertrain that consists of three electric motors, but their performance remains undisclosed. The company does mention that the car ships with an enormous battery rated at 250 kilowatt-hours, but doesn’t go into any kind of detail about its actual driving range.
Among other things, buyers of the new Roadster will be able to opt for the rocket-themed SpaceX option package.
